Chateau Durfort-Vivens
Château Durfort-Vivens is a winery in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. One of the classified grands crus of the Médoc, it was classified as a second growth in the original classification of 1855. The estate is overseen by Gonzague Lurton, who took over the management of the estate in the early 1990s.
The winery proudly presents itself with Ecocert certification (since 2015) and biodynamic production (Demeter label since 2017).
The 55-hectare vineyard is planted on deep gravelly soils with a base of sand and clay. Approximately 70% of the vineyard is Cabernet Sauvignon, 24 % Merlot and 6 % Cabernet Franc.
In the cellar, there is a range of wooden and concrete barrels to match the specific vineyard plots. After fermentation, the winemakers select the best barrels for the big wine - usually around 40 % of production - and the wine usually spends about 18 months in French oak barriques, with 35-45 % of new wood. The rest goes into another wine: Vivens de Durfort-Vivens.
