Champagne Charlot Tanneux

"When I drink wine, I want to taste its terroir - that's why I do it. I want to see the personality of the place, the place where it was born, I want to be moved, overwhelmed with emotion" - this is how Vincent Charlot explains his philosophy. He does it so emotionally that you just want to hold a bottle of his biodynamic champagne, open it and literally taste what he has just said.

Vincent owns 4.4 hectares of vineyards spread over 6 villages (Mardeuil, VAuciennes, Epernay, Moussy, Pierry 1er Cru and Ay Grand Cru) and 39 different parcels. All the vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic principles and have been certified either organic or Demeter since 2013.

Vincent is considered a true terroir geek, vinifying each lego individually and presenting between 17 and 27 (!) different labels per year, all with the aim of showcasing the diversity and unique personality of the soil and highlighting the legos. This means that a single barrel can be an entire terroir, i.e. about 300 bottles! All the basic wines are produced by spontaneous fermentation and ageing for several months in oak barrels or clay vats and often do not undergo malolactic fermentation. All the Champagnes are vintage and labelled with several years of ageing on lees. This is one of the reasons why he is so sought after and popular among wine lovers, whose champagnes are celebrated as exceptional culinary masterpieces.

The Charlot Tanneux range is made up of champagnes with organic certification, while Vincent Charlot is made up of champagnes with Demeter certification. Nevertheless, all the vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic principles and represent a true biodiversity with more than 90 different plants. Many of them are edible and visitors often eat them while strolling through the vineyard.
