Domaine des homs

The Domaine des Homs is a biodynamic estate of 20 hectares in the heart of the Minervois region in the French Languedoc. The region is very warm and dry, and the wind blowing inland from the sea brings just the right amount of moisture. The terroir is made up of sandstone, clay and quartz.

Jean-Marc's family has been growing grapes on the estate for three generations, but Jean-Marc is the first to bottle a large quantity of wine. His father and grandfather sold the wine to no one other than local merchants. When Jean-Marc and his wife Anne took over the winery in 2000, they decided (after oenology school and apprenticeships all over France) to systematically replant 13 of the 20 hectares, leaving the most productive, mature vines and rejuvenating the vineyards.

Under certified organic production, the soil is ploughed, there are no chemical inputs or chemical fertilisers, and the organic maturity ensures that the soil is nourished. The varieties grown on the Domain des Homs estate are Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, Viognier, Chardonnay and Muscat.
