Welcome to the Spanish wine region of Penedes, also famous for its sparkling cava, to Casa Ravella, a family-run winery that has been involved in wine since 1567. Coral reef sediments dating back to the Miocene period have been found in the soil of their vineyards, showing that their land was long ago below sea level. The soil in the area 25 km west of Barcelona, where Casa Ravella is located, is characterised by clay and permeable soils on a limestone subsoil with a low organic content. Casa Ravella is committed to environmentally friendly vineyard cultivation and organic farming, registered with the Catalan Council for Organic Agricultural Production (CCPAE). Their aim is to produce wine without compromising natural resources, thus also taking care of future generations. For years, they have managed their vineyards in a purely organic way. They want to improve the biological characteristics of the soil by using sustainable agriculture, environmentally friendly fertilisers and care for plant conservation. A vineyard with spontaneous vegetation, which ensures biodiversity and fertility, gives the soil a lot of life. After monitoring the ripeness of the grapes and the first rigorous selection process in the vineyard, the grapes are hand-picked and transported in small crates to the winery. Casa Ravella uses only grapes from its own production, fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve all the wine's organoleptic qualities.
