Chateau Lynch-Bages

Château Lynch-Bages is located in the commune of Pauillac in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. It is a large wine made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon and known for its structure and intensity, with the potential to age for 20 years or more. It is rightly ranked among the best in the appellation. The estate is located in the village of Bages. The second part of the name is named after Thomas Lynch, a Bordeaux merchant of Irish descent who owned the estate from 1749 to 1824. In the 1855 classification of Bordeaux, it was rated as fifth growth. Since 1945 it has been in the hands of the Cazes family, which is responsible for the remarkable rise in its reputation. The vineyards are located on a plateau to the west of Pauillac on gravelly, chalky and sandy soils. They cultivate 90 hectares of vineyards, 75 % of which are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. The remainder is made up of merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with extensive pumping for concentration and intensity of colour. Lynch-Bages wine is aged for approximately 15 months in oak barrels, approximately two thirds of which are new.
