A wine that boasts delicate aromas of fruitiness, grape skins, honey, sweet spices and almonds. A wine where the alcohol does not stand out, but is pleasantly integrated into the structure. The wine is sweet, warm, yet full-bodied with a persistent, accentuated, elegant flavour.
Macvin du Jura is produced by fortifying the unfermented must of the savagnin variety with Marc du Jura - a local brandy made from the pomace. The addition of alcohol prevents the fermentation of the sugar in the must. This produces a naturally sweet 'wine' which is matured in barrels for 22 months. This produces a slight tannin and, above all, adds notes of sweet spices to the wine.
